Virgil Flowers will have to watch his back--and his mouth--as he investigates a college culture war turned deadly in another one of Sandford's "madly entertaining Virgil Flowers mysteries" (New York Times Book Review).

At the local state university, two feuding departments have faced off on the battleground of science and medicine. Each carries their views to extremes that may seem absurd, but highly educated people of sound mind and good intentions can reasonably disagree, right?

Then a renowned and confrontational scholar winds up dead, and Virgil Flowers is brought in to investigate . . . and as he probes the recent ideological unrest, he soon comes to realize he's dealing with people who, on this one particular issue, are functionally crazy. Among this group of wildly impassioned, diametrically opposed zealots lurks a killer, and it will be up to Virgil to sort the murderer from the mere maniacs.

Love the Virgil Flowers character with his wit and humor. So many clues but still couldn’t solve it on my own yet author didn’t throw a curveball at the end to wrap up the story. Thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and storytelling.

I am so disappointed in this book. As a huge Sandford fan I can tell that he did not write this book. It fell flat at every turn, and there were so many things that Virgil Flowers would NEVER say or do... It’s clear to me it was written by one or more ghost writers, and people that weren’t from Minnesota! The U of MN colors are not RED and Gold- they are burgundy and gold- and that’s just one small example of the mistakes that were made. I never thought Sandford would be so deceptive.

This latest Sanford effort is outstanding! Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. The plot is excellent and the characters - both old and new - were interesting and engaging. At times, it made me laugh and other times cry. You really want to believe there are people like Virgil Flowers in this world. I highly recommend this book. It is an excellent read.

Just a poorly written book with a silly plot. Who knows who the ghost writers were? Their vocabulary may be limited. They used sex and off-color language when they were at a loss for words.By nodefinition could this book be called a work of literature.
